Description: LAWA brings together environmental monitoring data from all of New Zealand’s regional councils and NIWA, as well as presenting information provided by the Ministry for the Environment.This dataset shows how water samples taken within the Southern South Island biogeographic region catchments compare with other samples collected around the country. A selection of measurements were recorded for each site, including bacteria, turbidity, nitrogen, phosphorus and pH. Analysed results were then used to calculate the state of each sampling point on a national scale. All state values for a site are based on that particular sites median value. As well as showing how each site compares on a national scale, a ten year trend was also calculated. These trends show how the quality of water is changing over time.This dataset represents only a selection of the information available on the LAWA site.
