Title: Coastal Geology
Author:
Comments: The QMAP mapping programme compiles, interprets, and disseminates regional geological information with the goal to better understand natural hazards and earth resources such as minerals, groundwater and petroleum. QMAP data are an essential foundation for other science programmes, and key users include central, regional and local government, mineral and petroleum exploration companies, insurance and utility companies, universities, consultants and the general public. The QMAP database will ultimately be integrated into a seamless national geological database. The completed database will be accessible to the New Zealand public in vector and raster formats, and will be maintained and updated as a Nationally Significant Database. The datasets were compiled from numerous published and unpublished sources. Dataset spatially represents the geology. Data manually transferred to 1:50 000 record sheets, simplified for use at 1:250 000 on to 1:50 000 compilation sheets, and digitised. Plots of data verified by gis operator and author against compilation sheet. Attributes verified for logical consistency by gis operator.
