Title: Likely Biogenic Reefs
Author:
Comments: This layer is designed to show areas of likely distribution of biogenic reefs. Areas of likely distribution of biogenic reefsaround the Otago and Stewart Island shelf. The distributions was determined from the combination of high carbonate and high gravel seabed substrate - strong indicators for the environment conditions neccssary for biogenic reefs to form - along interpretation of side-scan sonar data. The raster was constrained by the 150m isobath which was used as a proxy for the limit of the continental shelf as byeyond the shelf, carbonate levels are strong influenced by foraminiferal deposits and not biogenic reef forming activities. Values are: 1=biogenic reefs could be present; 0=biogenic reefs are unilikely to be present.
