Layer: Surf Break 5km buffers (ID: 5)

Name: Surf Break 5km buffers

Display Field: Name

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: With the social and recreational values of surf breaks being recognised, there is a need to take into account the importance of seaward extents out from the coastline that potentially influence the characteristics of the surf break itself. The Surf Break 5 km buffer layer provides a visual representation of areas offshore from regionally significant surf breaks where other activities should also consider their impact on the coast, the dynamics of the breaking wave and the social and recreational importance of the surf break. These buffer zones were created taking into account swell corridor and wave height information along with localised topography and the sheltering effect of nearby land. Areas are indicative only to assist with marine spatial planning activities.
