Comments: Estuarine vegetation has been categorised into 5 classes; invasive species, mangroves, saltmarsh, seagrass, and undefined. Where there are more than one species found within a polygon, the polygon has been classified based on the dominant species found within the polygon. This GIS layer was created by Waikato Regional Council (WRC) by combining data held by Auckland Council (AC) and WRC. Original dataset from AC: This layer has been created from an amalgamation of all available intertidal vegetation sources which include data from Auckland Council, Department of Conservation, National Institute of Water and Atmosphere, Landcare Research and Land Information New Zealand. Data displayed is collected/digitised between 1999 and 2013. Orinigal dataset from WRC: Currently this is a data set of estuarine vegetation maps for thirteen estuaries on the Coromandel Peninsula (Manaia, Te Kouma, Coromandel, Whitianga, Tairua, Wharekawa, Waikawau Whangamata, Otahu, Whangapoua), four estuaries on the West Coast (Port Waikato, Raglan, Aotea, Kawhia) and the Firth of Thames. There are two data sets for Whangamata and Otahu estuaries (Updated 2007), Tairua, Wharekawa and Manaia (updated 2008) and Whitianga (updated 2009). NOTE: THE COMBINED WRC AND AC DATASET IS NOT A WAIKATO REGIONAL COUNCIL CORPORATE DATASET.
