Bottlenose dolphins were surveyed off the west coast of Great Barrier Island, a potential hotspot. Relative seasonal densities for bottlenose dolphins across all seasons were calculated from monthly boat-based photo ID surveys, monthly from 2011-2013, by Sarah Dwyer, Massey University. The relative annual density was calculated from these seasonal densities and corrected for effort.
Relative annual density of Brydes whales were calculated from boat-based photo ID surveys, corrected for effort, in the inner Hauraki Gulf and off the west coast of Great Barrier Island. Surveys were from 2011-2013 as part of research by Sarah Dwyer, Massey University.
