Consented marine farms in the Hauraki Gulf.
Marine farming (aquaculture) is an important primary industry located in the waters of the Hauraki Gulf. Around 58% of New Zealand’s oyster production and 25% of mussel production occur in the gulf, earning around $60 million to the region (if all exported) and employing around 1,000 full time jobs. There is also potential for finfish aquaculture to occur for species like kingfish, hapuku and snapper. Marine farms require consents from regional councils for their operation. This layer shows the locations and extents of all consented marine farms in the Hauraki Gulf.
