The analysed data layers were raster data (gridded cells) at a resolution of 200 m2. Data included in the analysis:95 Demersal fish species distributions. Endemic fish species were weighted 5x higher than non-endemics. (Leathwich et al. 2006)59 Reef fish species distributions. (Smith et al. 2013)5 Biogenic Habitats (MPA Policy Habitats dataset)The demersal and reef fish layers were included as surrogates for overall biodiversity. To account for neighbourhood influences of connectivity or edge effects in the biogenic habitat layers, a distribution smoothing function (5 km radius) was applied in Zonationto facilitate habitat connectivity. Further, a matrix connectivity function (Lehtomäki et al 2009) was specified to recognise interactions between the biogenic habitats. Within the demersal fish species group of layers, endemic species were weighted 5-times higher than non-endemic species. The group of biogenic habitat layers was also weighted twice as high as the other groups of layers because of the tendency for biodiversity to be higher in biogenic habitats than surrounding less complex ones.", "Subject": "Representation of marine biodiversity in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.
